Le Chameau Hike
15° 51.5′ N · 61° 35.7′ W
A steep climb to the highest point of Les Saintes (about 304-309 m), crowned by the 1843 Tour Modèle watchtower, with a panorama over the whole archipelago, Guadeloupe and Dominica.
Practical
Position is the summit (OSM peak; the Tour Modèle ruin is beside it). The paved road up runs through hot dry forest - start early, carry water. A cruiser took a steep, shaded scramble path down (2016). The hill belongs to the Conservatoire du Littoral (IUCN cat. IV); the old dump on its east flank was closed in 2010 (French Wikipedia). Listed among the commune's official hiking circuits. Elevation gain quoted as 309 m by the tourism board.
