Anguilla Day Boat Race (Sandy Ground)

On Anguilla Day, 30 May, the island's big open sailing boats race out of Sandy Ground. It is one of several national race days that start from Road Bay, including Easter Monday and the Champion of Champions in August.

Race days departing Sandy Ground per a local guide: Easter Monday, Anguilla Day (30 May), August Monday (first Monday in August, boats leave around 2-3pm) and Champion of Champions (the Sunday after August Thursday). Spectators follow the race around the island from the hilltops and roads; Sandy Ground is the beach party hub. If you are anchored in Road Bay on a race day, expect the fleet and spectator boats to crowd the anchorage: keep clear of the start. Anguilla Day is a public holiday, so check Customs hours.
