Hurricane Season & Swell (Anguilla)
18° 12.0′ N · 63° 5.4′ W · approximate
Anguilla sits squarely in the Atlantic hurricane belt and has no hurricane hole. Luis (1995) submerged Sandy Island and Lenny (1999) flooded the island, while Irma (2017), the strongest storm on record here, wrecked buildings and stripped the cays.
Practical
Coordinate approx: Road Bay area (representative). Wikipedia notes tropical storms and hurricanes from July to November; the official Atlantic season runs 1 June-30 November. Road Bay is open to the west, has wrecks on its south shore and is not a hurricane refuge, and there is no marina or haul-out on the island. Plan to be south of the hurricane belt, or in a recognised hurricane hole or haul-out elsewhere, before August-October. Rainfall averages about 35 in a year. Many beach bars cut their hours or close from late August to October.
