Anguilla Cruising Permit & Marine Park Day Moorings
18° 11.9′ N · 63° 5.5′ W
Anguilla's cruising permit is the price of leaving Road Bay. It covers the government day-use moorings in the marine parks at Sandy Island, Prickly Pear, Little Bay and Shoal Bay East, plus anchoring in the permitted bays around the island and the cays.
Practical
Coordinate is the Road Bay customs office where the permit is issued. The permit is required to visit anywhere outside Road Bay, including by dinghy, and is not needed if you stay in Road Bay. Department of Fisheries & Marine Resources brochure fees (published 2022, EC$, foreign vessels): up to 5 tons, $75 a day, $275 a week, $700 a month or $1,400 for 3 months; 5-20 tons, $150, $750, $2,250 or $6,000; over 20 tons, $375, $1,500, $3,000 or $8,500. Fees have since risen: a July 2025 Noonsite comment quoted EC$1,125 for one week at 5-20 tons. Verify locally. A day permit expires at midnight, so an overnight stay outside Road Bay costs two days (2016 report). Marine park moorings are day use only, 6am-7pm. Yellow buoys are for boats under 40 ft, white for boats under 65 ft, and red are for licensed dive operators only. Run your own line through the pickup eye and cleat both ends; never cleat the pennant directly. In the parks there is no anchoring except in designated sand areas, and absolutely no anchoring at Little Bay or Shoal Bay East. Also prohibited in the parks: fishing, removing anything, discharging bilge or sewage, jet skis and water-skiing, and beach fires. Diving in the marine parks must be with a local dive operator. Penalty: up to EC$5,000 and/or 6 months in prison. Overnight rules: older reports (2016-2019) say only Road Bay and Crocus Bay allow overnight stays, while the local agent AXA Yacht Services lists Meads Bay and the south-coast bays as day-and-overnight anchorages. Confirm when you buy the permit. Department of Fisheries & Marine Resources: +1 264-497-2871, fisheriesmr@gov.ai.
