Zakynthos National Marine Park Zones

37° 42.3′ N · 20° 53.3′ E

Founded in 1999, the National Marine Park of Zakynthos covers Laganas Bay between Cape Marathia and Cape Geraki, the Keri wetland and the distant Strofades islands. Its marine zones control where boats may go, how fast and where they may anchor.

Practical

Coordinate is the park's centre (Wikipedia). Marine park rules (SailingIssues, zanteisland.com, ARCHELON), in force 1 May–31 October: Zone A – no entry, mooring or anchoring, marked by yellow circular buoys 75 m apart; Zone B – entry allowed at 6 knots maximum, no mooring or anchoring; Zone C – 6 knots maximum, anchoring allowed, conical buoys 150 m apart. No spearfishing anywhere in the park. Zone C includes the harbours of Agios Sostis and Keri. Three lighted buoys mark Zone B: south of Marathonisi, near Cape Geraki, and one between them (SailingIssues). Pelouzo islet sits in a no-navigation area from May to October (zanteisland.com). Noonsite advises checking with the port authority in Zakynthos before visiting at any time of year. Fines have been issued to yachts, though enforcement is patchy. The park's head office is on El. Venizelou Street in Zakynthos Town (zanteisland.com). Study the zone map on the park website (nmp-zak.org) or SailingIssues before entering the bay.
