Kalamaki (Crystal) & East Laganas Nesting Beaches
37° 43.6′ N · 20° 52.2′ E
The long sand beach that runs from busy Laganas to Kalamaki is itself a turtle nesting beach, with the quietest, pinewood-backed stretch in the middle.
Practical
Nature Protection Areas of the marine park (ARCHELON): visit 7am to sunset only, keep beach activity within 5 m of the sea, sunbeds are removed each night, no vehicles, horses or night lights. Water skiing is banned (Wikipedia, Kalamaki). The waters off the nesting beaches fall in the park's restricted zones (no anchoring in Zones A and B), so this is not a yacht anchorage in season. Laganas town is the island's main party resort; Kalamaki is quieter. ARCHELON has an info station by the Crystal Beach Hotel in Kalamaki.
