Kalamaki & East Laganas Anchoring Ban (Nesting Beaches)

37° 43.9′ N · 20° 54.3′ E · approximate

Kalamaki and East Laganas are loggerhead nesting beaches of the National Marine Park, and the waters in front of them are no place for a yacht in the season. There is no legal anchorage off Kalamaki or Laganas town.

Practical

Coordinate is in the bay off Kalamaki beach, derived from the OpenStreetMap beach outline (approximate). ARCHELON lists East Laganas and Kalamaki among the six nesting beaches (with Marathonisi, Sekania, Dafni and Gerakas); the beaches are open only 7am to sunset and ARCHELON's information point is in front of the Crystal Beach Hotel in Kalamaki. Marine park rules (zanteisland.com, SailingIssues): Zone A – no boats; Zone B – 6 knots, no anchoring; Zone C – 6 knots, anchoring allowed. SailingIssues names the harbours of Agios Sostis and Keri as Zone C; no source used shows any Zone C anchoring off Kalamaki or East Laganas. So: in Laganas Bay, berth at Agios Sostis or anchor off Limni Keri, and visit Kalamaki and Laganas by bus or taxi. Respect the buoys: yellow round buoys mark Zone A; three lighted buoys mark Zone B (south of Marathonisi, near Cape Geraki and between them). Fines have been issued.
