Turtle Nesting Season (Laganas Bay)
37° 43.7′ N · 20° 53.0′ E
From May to August, female loggerheads come ashore at night to lay about 120 eggs each in the sand of Laganas Bay; the hatchlings emerge around 50 days later and race for the sea by the light of the horizon.
Practical
Nesting is June–August per zanteisland.com and May–August per Wikipedia; hatching follows into October. Marine park restrictions on boats run 1 May–31 October. Nesting beaches are closed at night (sunset to 7am) and guarded. Shore lights and night presence disorient turtles and hatchlings: keep deck lights low if anchored in the bay. Coordinate is Laganas beach (OpenStreetMap). The airport bans night flights (10pm–5am) for the same reason.
Best for
Planning a summer visit around the turtles
