Two Rocks Bay (Parga coast)

39° 12.3′ N · 20° 29.2′ E

A small, scenic bay about 5 nm SE of Parga, just south of the Acheron mouth at Ammoudia, named for the two rocks that stand up out of the water at its entrance. It is better sheltered from the summer W-NW wind than the chart suggests.

Practical

Position is the approach waypoint given by Plaisance Pratique (39 12.33N 020 29.23E, from HNHS chart data). Anchor in 2-3 m off the NW beach. Take care on the approach: the pilot notes there are no soundings for it on Navionics or CM93 charts, so go slowly with a bow lookout. Tripper boats come down from the Acheron river by day, but it quietens in the evening. Open to the south; for southerlies the fallback is Lakka (Paxos) or Preveza. No fuel, services or clearance here; the nearest tavernas and Cosmote signal are at Ammoudia. A mySea anchorage 1.8 nm south of Ammoudia (39.21049N 20.49140E) gives 4-6 m over sand with good holding.

Best for

A quiet overnight off the Epirus coast between Parga and Preveza

Season

May-Oct in settled weather; untenable in S winds
