Snorkel· Arki· Greece — Dodecanese, Sporades & North Aegean

Tiganakia (Arki)

37° 22.1′ N · 26° 44.9′ E

A string of small sandy coves and islets at Arki's south-east tip with Caribbean-coloured shallows — Arki's best beach and a top snorkel spot, where Neolithic ceramics were excavated.

Practical

Secluded basin for 6–8 yachts (more with lines ashore); outside the basin, 7–12 m east of it. NW-proof with excellent holding, but heavy swell rolls round the east cape in strong N and E winds — move to Port Augusta or Makronisi in a blow. Submarine cable. Day-tripper boats from about 11am to 5pm (Sailing Issues). Wikipedia: small, somewhat rocky, clear water.

Best for

Turquoise swim and snorkel

Season

Jun–Sep (meltemi months); best May–Jun and Sep
