Makronisi Anchorage (Arki)

37° 21.6′ N · 26° 45.0′ E

A completely meltemi-proof anchorage on the south-west of Makronisi islet off Arki — one of Sailing Issues' top ten in the Dodecanese.

Practical

Dense sand in 4–8 m; little swell even in gales; many options for lines ashore. Approach: Tsouka and Tsoukaki islets guard the south-west; the north side of the passage between Makronisi and Tsouka carries over 4 m, but the south side has dangerous shoals of 1.4 m. Channels are not well charted — reconnoitre first (Sailing Issues).

Best for

Bombproof meltemi anchorage

Season

Jun–Sep (meltemi months); best May–Jun and Sep
