Kontias Bay — Diapori (Lemnos)

39° 51.2′ N · 25° 10.3′ E

The deep inlet below the windmill village of Kontias on Lemnos' south coast, sheltered from northerlies, with a rebuilt fishing harbour and the wetland of Diapori at its head.

Practical

Coordinate is the Diapori anchorage at the head of the bay (Grecosailor): sand bottom, well protected from northerly winds, and popular with wingfoilers for its calm water. Paralia Agios Ioannis (39.8505, 25.1542), further out, has a small cliff that deflects strong northerlies and a little fishing harbour. The Municipality of Lemnos says the Kontias fishing shelter was rebuilt by March 2023 (basin dredged, new windward mole, quays with rings and fenders, water, fire-fighting and lighting, plus a navigation light) — space for yachts is not guaranteed among fishing boats. Kontias village (2 km inland) has windmills, galleries and a picture gallery. The Diapori marsh is part of the Natura 2000 network (GR4110006).
