Kamari Bay Anchorage (Kefalos, Kos)
36° 44.8′ N · 26° 58.8′ E
A wide turquoise bay under the ridge-top village of Kefalos, with room for 30-plus boats on sand and Kastri islet's chapel at its northern end, one of the safest meltemi anchorages on the south coast.
Practical
Anchor on sand in 5 m or less toward the small harbour; straight-in approach with nothing to avoid, but yellow buoys mark swimming areas closer in to the east (ActiveCaptain). One preferred spot is just south of the Kamari port mole: good holding and safe in the meltemi. Winds here are typically northerlies or southerlies, so choose your spot; shallow in the north of the bay, deep in the south (Sailing Issues). mySea: sand with weed patches, good to very good holding, protected N to E, exposed S to SW, with short, weak downbursts in the meltemi; water-ski and jet-ski noise by day. Dinghy to the restaurant jetties or the beach; mini-markets, car and windsurf hire along the front. Kefalos village is a 15-minute walk up. Airport an easy taxi ride for crew changes.
Best for
Overnight meltemi shelter on south-west Kos
Season
May–Oct; open to S–SW
