Fanes Harbour (Rhodes)
36° 21.9′ N · 27° 58.5′ E
A tiny, silted west-coast port, uninspiring in itself but the nearest harbour to Ancient Kamiros and the Valley of the Butterflies.
Practical
Sailing Issues: all-round shelter inside, but permanently silted, with a weed patch under the northern breakwater. A sandbar all but blocks the entrance, and in windy conditions high waves along the coast make access harder. Works to heighten the outer mole began in 2023 and were unfinished in 2025, and the entrance looked worse. mySea: depths vary inside; reconnoitre by dinghy first, then berth stern-to. Butterfly Valley is a 20-minute taxi ride; Kamiros is a 10-minute drive or 1.5-hour walk.
Best for
Shoal-draft access to west-coast sights
