Fakistra Beach (East Pelion)

39° 23.4′ N · 23° 11.6′ E

A turquoise cove of soft sand and rocks below huge, densely wooded cliffs, often called one of Pelion's most beautiful beaches. Mamma Mia! scenes were shot here, and a sea cave with stalactites lies close by.

Practical

The position is the OpenStreetMap Fakistra beach way. Greeka describes soft sand with some rocky spots and says scenes from Mamma Mia! were filmed here in 2008; a reviewer found the narrow path down from the road tricky. Heather on her Travels says it is reached by a steep path down. Greeka mentions no facilities, so bring water. The Agios Ioannis boat tours stop at the beach and at Fakistra Cave, which has stalactites and stalagmites (Activities Pelion). A yacht should come only on a calm day and land by dinghy. No depth or holding data was found, and the coast is open to the NE. The Tsagarada–Fakistra–Damouchari path (see the hike entry) also comes down here.

Best for

A dinghy or boat-tour landing at Pelion's most dramatic cove

Season

Jun–Sep, calm days only
