Agios Ioannis Harbour & Anchorage (East Pelion)

39° 25.1′ N · 23° 9.9′ E · approximate

The main resort on Pelion's Aegean coast. A long Blue Flag pebble-and-sand beach runs along a seafront promenade, with a small port at one end that fishing boats, yachts and the local tour boats use. Calm-day base for Papa Nero, Damouchari and the sea-only beaches to the south.

Practical

The position is approximate: about 250 m north-east (seaward) of the OpenStreetMap Agios Ioannis beach (39.4160, 23.1629), off the beach. Check it on your chart. Wikipedia says only that the small port is used by fishing boats and yachts. No published depth, holding or berth data was found, so treat it as a settled-weather day stop and expect very limited space. Local tour boats leave the port at 10 am, 1 pm and 4 pm in summer (Activities Pelion), so keep their berth clear. This is the exposed Aegean side: Wikivoyage warns that the north-east Pelion beaches can have big waves, and there is no all-weather harbour on this coast. The nearest full services are at Volos, around the peninsula. Ashore: many tavernas, cafés, shops and hotels along the front (Wikivoyage, Around Pelion). The village is 42 km from Volos, 11 km from Tsagarada and 24 km from Zagora by road. A footbridge over the river leads to Papa Nero beach. A path over the headland leads to Damouchari, and the Kissos kalderimi starts here (see the hike entry).
