Anchorage· Symi· Greece — Dodecanese, Sporades & North Aegean
Agios Georgios Dysalona (Symi)
36° 35.9′ N · 27° 52.3′ E
A square bay on Symi's east coast enclosed by towering cliffs with a strong echo. A small monastery of St George sits on the beach and the water is crystal clear.
Practical
Sailing Issues: most of the bay is too deep; drop in 3.5–10 m near the beach (pin) or close to the north shore (36.59962, 27.87448), where plenty of rocks take a shore line. Occasionally formidable katabatic NW gusts; strong northerlies bring swell; watch for freighter and tripper-boat wake. Grecosailor: anchored in 7 m on sand; a sand ledge about 90 m out at 6–8 m lets you approach within 30 m of shore. Rock climbing nearby.
Best for
Dramatic cliff-walled bay
Season
Gusty in NW; swell in strong northerlies
