Nanou Bay (Symi)

36° 34.8′ N · 27° 51.7′ E

A big, steep bay with a tamarisk-lined pebble beach, goats, a chapel and a summer mini-taverna. The pine-clad cove in the SW corner is where superyachts tuck in with a shore line.

Practical

Sailing Issues: take a line to the shore in the SW cove (pin). Strong NW gusts in the meltemi; good holding, so worth more than a lunch stop. Mind the isolated rock or shallow patch in the south. A mini-pier is used by the tripper boat. mySea calls it lovely and untouched. Sabina Beach to the north (Grecosailor, 36.58372, 27.86383) is very deep: one boat dragged at 12 m and held at 15 m with 55 m of chain, with a stern line to the rocks; northerly gusts to 22 kn. Day stop only.
