Vathy Gialo & Faneromenis Coves (Symi)
36° 33.2′ N · 27° 52.3′ E
Two tiny, beachless coves south of Cape Skouloudas, with no tripper boats: about as off the beaten track as Symi gets.
Practical
Sailing Issues: Vathy Gialo (pin), about 1 nm south of Marathounda, is a tiny anchorage over sand and weed, vulnerable to NE–S winds. A further 0.25 nm south, around Cape Faneromeni, triangular Faneromenis bay (36.54534, 27.86158) is less exposed but has little room to swing. Use a trip line near the apex; there is sand further out. It makes an alluring lunch stop but is impracticable in wind. A dinghy landing at the foot of cement steps leads over the saddle to Panormitis. Mind the reefs off Cape Skouloudas and the rock awash off the next cape.
Best for
Secluded lunch stops
