Tris Klisies Bay (Ios)

36° 40.3′ N · 25° 23.1′ E

'Three Churches' bay, on the south-east coast north of Manganari: three small, quiet coves with clear water, good snorkelling over a coloured reef, and remains of the old harbour on the seabed.

Practical

Position from Grecosailor (36°40'15.3"N 25°23'04.3"E); Sailing Issues gives 36.67107N 25.38437E. Anchor south of the coloured reef or in one of the two northern coves. Sailing Issues prefers the NE corner in 4-6 m. Sand, weed and rock, so check that the anchor has bitten; a Grecosailor crew held in gusty winds. In a strong meltemi, move to Manganari (Sailing Issues, George Yachts). Visit Ios calls these the 'windless' beaches and notes remains of the old port underwater. Sailing Issues also reports a proposed marina development here and a local campaign to protect the bay. No services ashore.

Best for

Quiet snorkelling anchorage in moderate northerlies

Season

May-Oct; move to Manganari in strong meltemi
