Kalamos Beach (Ios)
36° 41.6′ N · 25° 22.8′ E
A long, secluded blond-sand beach on the east coast, 16 km from the port at the end of a dirt road. The Agios Ioannis Kalamos monastery stands on the ridge above.
Practical
Position is the OSM beach. By boat: Grecosailor lists a Kalamos anchorage at 36°41'37.9"N 25°22'56.6"E with a sand, rock and seagrass bottom; use the small cove on the left, where shallow rocks are good for snorkelling. No services; you walk the last stretch from the road (Visit Ios). The area's big Agios Ioannis Prodromos country fair is held in late August (see Ios Panigyria (Country Fairs)). Exposed to the east and a settled-weather stop in strong northerlies (Grecosailor: south and east bays are exposed in northerlies).
