Panagia Kastriani Monastery (Kea)
37° 39.9′ N · 24° 23.8′ E
An 18th-century monastery perched on a steep rock above the sea on Kea's north-east coast, with paved courtyards and shady trees. Its 15 August feast is the biggest gathering on the island.
Practical
Reached by road from Otzias. The beach below can be reached only by boat (Destination Kea). In calm weather you can see the monastery from the water when passing the north-east coast. In a meltemi this coast is a lee shore, so stay well off. Dress modestly (shoulders and knees covered). The position is the OpenStreetMap feature for the monastery building.
