Otzias Bay Anchorage (Kea)

37° 40.7′ N · 24° 20.9′ E

A deep, gently shelving bay on Kea's north tip with a sandy beach, a hamlet and a beach taverna. It is a dependable stop in southerlies and the end of the walk down from the Lion of Kea.

Practical

Anchor in the west-shore cove in 4-5 m (sailingissues). Open to N-NNE, so it is not a meltemi anchorage, but it is reliable even in strong southerlies. Aegeanislands advises using it only when strong winds are not blowing. Taverna Otzias Kouzina is on the beach. Scuba diving is prohibited in Otzias Bay because of underwater archaeological sites, though swimming and snorkelling are allowed (Kea Divers). The Neolithic settlement at Kephala is on the headland to the west. Kea Trail 1 (5.1 km) climbs from the beach to Ioulida via the Lion.

Best for

Southerly-wind refuge and start of the Lion walk

Season
