Nea Kameni Piers & Buoys

36° 24.0′ N · 25° 24.3′ E

Nea Kameni's landing places: a tight rectangular inlet in the southeast (Coordinates: OpenSeaMap harbour mark), tour-boat piers on the north side, and a set of buoys on the south side where a yacht can spend a night alone with the volcano.

Practical

Sailingissues: caïques and tripper boats dominate the SE inlet quay and berths are hard to find. The north quay (36.4106 N 25.4014 E) is uncharted and exposed to northerlies. Update March 2026: up to 7 pointed and spherical buoys on the south side are free to use overnight once the tripper boats leave. The inlet's light is Fl W 3s 5M (OpenSeaMap). Rocks lie between Nea and Palea Kameni (OpenSeaMap marks several around 36.400-36.405 N 25.384-25.386 E), and a rock off the north side near 36.4128 N 25.3935 E. The caldera is too deep to anchor. Leave a crew member aboard during the day, because tour-boat wash is heavy.

Best for

Season
