Sea Diamond Wreck (Caldera)
36° 23.7′ N · 25° 25.8′ E
The cruise ship Sea Diamond struck a volcanic reef inside the caldera on April 5, 2007 and sank the next morning a few hundred metres off Athinios. Her bow lies at about 62 m and her stern at about 180 m.
Practical
A hazard and environmental site, not a dive: about 450 tonnes of fuel were aboard, some was pumped off in 2009, and containment booms were over the wreck in 2015. A 2017 announcement said she would be raised; check current notices. OSM marks the wreck slightly southeast (36.3921 N 25.4338 E) and a second point at 36.3950 N 25.4309 E. Sailingissues places the reef just south of the Kameni islet, so give the shore between Athinios and the wreck a clear berth and follow Port Authority notices.
