Fira Town (Santorini)

36° 24.9′ N · 25° 25.9′ E

Santorini's capital, strung along the caldera rim about 400 m up: white cube houses, domed churches, the island's main bus station and two good museums.

Practical

The Museum of Prehistoric Thera holds the Akrotiri frescoes and finds; the Archaeological Museum of Thera is about 30 m east of the cable car's upper station (Wikipedia). The central bus station on Plateia Theotokopoulou runs frequent buses to almost every village, including Akrotiri, Perissa, Kamari, Oia and the Vlychada area. Fira has the island's widest choice of pharmacies, bakeries and a butcher (OSM). It is very crowded when several cruise ships are in; go early or late.
