Santorini Seismic Access Restrictions

36° 25.1′ N · 25° 25.7′ E · approximate

After the January-March 2025 Santorini-Amorgos earthquake swarm, access to the cliff-foot harbours was restricted. A joint ministerial decision now regulates them until March 31, 2027.

Practical

Coordinates: Fira Old Port, one of the affected harbours (approx; the rule covers several sites). History: a state of emergency ran from February 6 to March 3, 2025, when authorities restricted access to cliffs and certain ports; Noonsite (April 2025) reported Fira Old Port and Ammoudi closed or under controlled access until May 2025 while technical works were done. Rules from April 2026, valid to March 31, 2027, may be revised after further events. Athinios has new traffic rules and no parking. At Fira Old Port access is generally allowed, but one zone is restricted. Armeni is open by sea and path. Ammoudi is open by sea, its road is closed to most vehicles, and the Ammoudi-Agios Nikolaos coastal trail is closed. Korfos (Thirasia) is open by land and sea. Ask the Thira Port Authority (VHF 12, +30 22860 22239) on arrival, and avoid lingering under cliffs after any tremor.
