Athinios Ferry Port (Santorini)

36° 23.2′ N · 25° 25.8′ E

Santorini's main ferry and car port, a concrete apron at the foot of a zig-zag road down the caldera wall. Big ferries and fast cats from Piraeus, the Cyclades and Crete come in all day.

Practical

Not a yacht berth: no space for visiting yachts and constant ferry manoeuvring. Use it for crew changes. Buses and taxis climb to Fira (about 10 km). A 2026 joint ministerial decision, in force until March 31, 2027, set new traffic rules here: an emergency lane must be kept clear and all vehicle parking is prohibited, so arrange pickups for the ship's arrival time. The Sea Diamond cruise-ship wreck lies on the reef just north of the port (see Sea Diamond Wreck). Keep well clear of ferry approaches when sailing past; call the Port Authority on VHF 12 if you must cross the approach.

Best for

Ferry crew changes and arrivals from Piraeus or Crete
