Teahuroa Cistern and Laundry Water (Toau)

15° 56.0′ S · 145° 53.4′ W

The wooden house at Teahuroa, south of Otugi Pass, with a rainwater cistern and a solar street lamp; the residents have let passing yachts take a little water and do laundry.

Practical

Position is sea-seek's Teahuroa point (15°56.00'S 145°53.39'W), the house on the rim; anchor off it (see Teahuroa Anchorage). Water is limited and is the residents' supply, so always ask first, take small quantities and offer something in return; in drought there may be none (sea-seek, Aug 2024 edition). Fish are plentiful here. Toau has no shop or fuel: the supply ship no longer calls (Sugar Shack, Nov 2020), so arrive full from Fakarava. Morton Palmer's farm, about 3.5 nm north of the passes, sells eggs, vegetables and honey.
