Fakatahuna Pass Drift Snorkel (Toau)

15° 54.2′ S · 145° 53.8′ W · approximate

The narrow, shallow second pass 0.5 nm north of Otuigi, too tight for yachts but a superb dinghy drift snorkel over deep grooves and channels with lemon sharks, Napoleon wrasse and parrotfish.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap node for Passe Fakatahuna. Sugar Shack (June 2021) took the dinghy out through Otuigi and drift snorkeled back in through Fakatahuna on the flood. Go only on the incoming tide, with one person in the dinghy, a handheld VHF and an anchor; the pass has no markers.
