Otuigi Pass Dive (Toau)

15° 55.5′ S · 145° 52.8′ W

A drift along the near-vertical outer wall beside Toau's main pass and into the pass itself, with 30 m+ visibility, inquisitive reef sharks on the wall and a pack of larger grey sharks in the channel.

Practical

Start position about 15°55.5'S 145°52.8'W, a little SW of the pass on the outside (Hacking family, Aug 2003). Depths 12-23 m on a wall with no bottom; very little current outside, strong current inside where divers had to hold the bottom; fewer fish and more bare patches inside the pass. Dive near slack or on the flood, with a dinghy tender following. No dive shop on Toau; Fakarava North dive centres have run trips here.
