The east and southeast sides of Makaroa are among the Gambier's few recommended dive and snorkel sites when the swell is down.

approx: no published site position. The pin is off Makaroa's SE corner, about 0.3 nm from Sugar Shack's anchor spot. Pitufa and Sugar Shack recommend it for snorkeling, and diving is reported good. Go only with no swell, and bring your own dive gear and compressor (no dive shops in the Gambier).
