Makaroa Anchorage (day stop)

23° 13.1′ S · 134° 58.0′ W

A small, uninhabited high islet in the south of the lagoon. Most cruisers stop only for the day because of deep water, poor holding and swell from almost every direction.

Practical

Coordinate from Sugar Shack (April 2020): 6 m of sand between a few bommies with four floats on the chain. They stayed a few days despite rolling swell. Treat it as a day stop and leave if swell builds.

Best for

Day stop for the Makaroa reef dive

Season

Calm days only
