Amanu NE Reef Walk (octopus and lobster)
17° 43.5′ S · 140° 39.0′ W · approximate
Low-tide reef walks off Amanu's quiet NE corner, where cruisers go with locals for octopus, crab and lobster.
Practical
Grace of Longstone (Jan 2021) found great reef walks, fishing and octopus, crab and lobster hunting from the North Anchorage (17°43.60S / 140°39.09W). Duplicat (2017) walked the outer reef south of the northern blind pass for lobster, but the tide was too high, so go at low water on a calm day. Wear reef shoes and gloves, never turn your back on the ocean swell, and check local rules and seasons before taking lobster. Night hunting with locals is the usual way. Position approximate: on the reef flat NE of the North Anchorage waypoint.
