Ahe Supply-Ship Day (Tenukupara Quay)
14° 32.3′ S · 146° 21.4′ W · approximate
When the Dory, Mareva Nui or another goélette ties up at Tenukupara, the shops briefly fill with fresh food, bread arrives by the bag and the quay becomes the village's social hub.
Practical
Approximate: placed at Tenukupara Quay. 2024 atoll sheet: Dory (about 50 calls a year), Mareva Nui (21) and SXMS 4 (22); 81 of 93 authorised calls were made in 2022. Ships come in at night too, and boats anchored too close to the wharf have been asked to move (Jacaranda, 2016). Bread comes on the ship in bags of 25; fresh vegetables from Tahiti have turned up at a snack (2016); the magasin can be empty otherwise (Oct 2023). Ask at the shops or the mairie for the next ship date; schedules change.
