Three small stores a minute's walk from the wharf in Tenukupara (Magasin Suzanne, Magasin Arii and Magasin Lucie on OpenStreetMap) selling basics, frozen meat and cooking gas; fresh produce arrives only with the supply ship.
Practical
Position is Magasin Suzanne on OpenStreetMap; Magasin Arii is next door and Magasin Lucie about 60 m east. The 2024 atoll sheet lists 4 shops, a snack-bar, a snack, a bakery and family pensions. Elvira Sweden (Oct 2023) found the magasin basically empty: some freezer meat, eggs, no fruit or vegetables. Jacaranda (2016) found freezers with shrimp, chicken and steak, and Tahiti vegetables at a snack. Bread comes by ship, sometimes from Manihi, in bags of 25. Cooking gas (French bottles) at Arre's small shop across from the post office about 50 m up from the wharf; no deposit if you return the bottle (2016). Takeaway: a snack opens about once a week and a family cooks steak and fries for takeaway twice a week, turn right at the phone booth (2023).
