Tori's Reef (Dive Site)
12° 4.2′ N · 68° 16.8′ W
A wilder south-coast site opposite the salt-works outflow, where a channel under the road leads onto elkhorn coral and a reef wall - rich in fish but with a current that depends on whether Cargill has opened the sluices.
Practical
Depth 20-100 ft (tourism board); bonaire.com: sand flat 3-8 m, reef from about 8 m, wall to 40 m. Entry over slippery flat rocks at the red-and-white bridge on E.E.G. Boulevard; park on the road shoulder. Current varies from none to strong when the salt-pond outflow is open (no fixed schedule) and can carry divers out - advanced divers only, never solo, use an SMB. Fire coral on the way out; surf at entry in strong NE wind; lost fishing line. No facilities. A yellow mooring about 70 m off in 6 m marks the reef start (bonaire.com). Shore dive: no yacht anchoring anywhere in the Marine Park. From a yacht, come by dinghy and tie to the yellow STINAPA public mooring (2 consecutive hours max, boats up to 13 m, moor by the bow; STINAPA), or drive. Nature fee required (US$40 per calendar year per bonaire.com); no gloves, no touching or feeding, reef-safe sunscreen; an orientation dive is mandatory on arrival and an SMB is recommended (STINAPA). Check STINAPA's SCTLD stoplight map before diving and move from green to yellow to red sites, never the reverse. Coordinate: OpenStreetMap dive-site marker between Salt City and Pink Beach; bonaire.com's own pins disagree (12.1475, -68.3098 is in the channel to Klein Bonaire), so trust the OSM point.
