Pekelmeer Flamingo Sanctuary

12° 2.9′ N · 68° 16.1′ W

One of only four places on earth where Caribbean flamingos breed: more than 10,000 birds feed and nest in the pink brine pans of Bonaire's south, coloured by tiny rosy brine shrimp.

Practical

Visitors are not allowed inside the sanctuary - watch from the road or Pink Beach with binoculars (Tourism Corporation Bonaire). Also ospreys, cormorants, herons and frigatebirds. Do not stop or fly drones near nesting areas. Sailing the south coast from Kralendijk you can often see flamingos flying over the salt flats (Virgintino). Coordinate: OpenStreetMap protected area.
