Lac Bay (Sorobon) Windsurfing

12° 5.5′ N · 68° 14.2′ W

A shallow, reef-sheltered lagoon on the windward coast where steady trades blow over waist-deep turquoise water - one of the world's great windsurf spots and host of PWA freestyle events.

Practical

Sorobon Beach on the bay's south shore has rental and teaching centres (e.g. Jibe City, OSM) plus beach bars; the barrier reef across the mouth lets every level pick its conditions (Wikipedia). Not a yacht anchorage - Lac is a fragile Ramsar wetland with zoning; only fishing boats use its small harbour. Reach it by car (about 20 minutes from Kralendijk). Wikipedia notes the bay was closed for a week in October 2024 because of an American crocodile. Coordinate: OpenStreetMap Sorobon Beach.
