Alice in Wonderland (Dive Site)

12° 6.0′ N · 68° 17.1′ W

The classic double-reef dive south of the Hilma Hooker: a shallow first reef, a sand channel full of garden eels and stingrays, then a second reef across the channel that tempts divers deeper than planned.

Practical

Tourism board depth 10-30 m (30-100 ft); bonaire.com: first reef 8-20 m, sand channel 20-30 m, second reef 30 m and deeper, about 100 m across the channel - compass skills and depth discipline needed. Sand beach entry beside the yellow mooring buoy, with sharp coral fragments in the sand (put fins on in the water). Gravel parking behind the Cargill sign for about 8-10 cars. Current minimal to moderate, usually north to south. Shore dive: no yacht anchoring anywhere in the Marine Park. From a yacht, come by dinghy and tie to the yellow STINAPA public mooring (2 consecutive hours max, boats up to 13 m, moor by the bow; STINAPA), or drive. Nature fee required (US$40 per calendar year per bonaire.com); no gloves, no touching or feeding, reef-safe sunscreen; an orientation dive is mandatory on arrival and an SMB is recommended (STINAPA). Check STINAPA's SCTLD stoplight map before diving and move from green to yellow to red sites, never the reverse. Coordinate: OpenStreetMap dive-site marker; bonaire.com's map pin (12.1048, -68.2888) is about 500 m north and falls near the Hilma Hooker, so use the OSM point.
