Angel City (Double Reef Dive Site)

12° 6.2′ N · 68° 17.2′ W

Bonaire's best-known 'double reef': two parallel reefs separated by a sand channel about 15 m wide, just south of the Hilma Hooker - angelfish, tarpon and the chance to add the wreck in the same dive.

Practical

First reef about 5-18 m, second reef 9-40 m (bonaire.com). Small coral-gravel beach entry, no stairs; a yellow buoy about 25 m out marks the reef. Only 8-10 free spaces on E.E.G. Boulevard - arrive before 8 am. Current none to mild, rarely over half a knot along the second reef; waves in strong north wind. Night diving for experienced divers. Fragile coral close to the surface - snorkellers must not stand on it. Shore dive: no yacht anchoring anywhere in the Marine Park. From a yacht, come by dinghy and tie to the yellow STINAPA public mooring (2 consecutive hours max, boats up to 13 m, moor by the bow; STINAPA), or drive. Nature fee required (US$40 per calendar year per bonaire.com); no gloves, no touching or feeding, reef-safe sunscreen; an orientation dive is mandatory on arrival and an SMB is recommended (STINAPA). Check STINAPA's SCTLD stoplight map before diving and move from green to yellow to red sites, never the reverse. Coordinate: OpenStreetMap dive-site marker.
