Sapodilla Bay Anchorage (Chalk Sound, Providenciales)

21° 44.5′ N · 72° 17.3′ W

The classic first-and-last stop in the Turks & Caicos: a small, sand-bottomed bay on Provo's south coast, tucked behind Sapodilla Hill a short walk from the South Dock customs office and a few minutes from the international airport.

Practical

Position 21°44.54'N 072°17.30'W (Noonsite). Approach from the west via the Sandbore Channel or from the south across the Caicos Bank. Cruisers report 8 ft and more right up to the beach and good holding in about 10 ft of sand; protected from N and E, open to the south (Noonsite, cruiser report 2019). Mind the tide state on approach. Shore access has become awkward: villa development has put 'Private Property' signs along the southern beach, so land the dinghy at the public access path between properties. Clearance is at South Dock over the hill (see South Dock entry) or at a marina. Nothing is walkable from the bay; order a taxi (Noonsite lists VHF 68) or have a rental car delivered. Las Brisas restaurant is a 1-minute drive away; daytime jet skis and beach vendors make the beach busy. Best spot on the island for crew changes because of the airport.

Best for

Clearing in/out, staging for the Caicos Bank or the run southeast, crew changes
