Roatán Marine Park is the community non-profit that manages moorings and conservation in the Bay Islands National Marine Park, the largest marine protected area in Honduras (declared June 10, 2010; 647,153 ha).
Practical
Office/eco store in Half Moon Bay, West End (coordinate from OpenStreetMap). Yacht mooring fees: US$10/day, $50/week, $150/month (Noonsite 2024; RMP Donorbox mooring page). Rules: anchoring prohibited in the park; do not touch coral or take anything (conch and lobster included); spearfishing prohibited for tourists everywhere on Roatán; RMP dive buoys (white with black logo) and fishing moorings cannot be used by yachts; no sewage discharge within 5 miles of the Honduran coast — violations can mean jail or impoundment. Older notes mention a voluntary ~US$10 dive tag for diving park waters (verify locally). RMP also runs lionfish-culling courses and coral restoration.
