Half Moon Bay Reef (West End, Roatán)

16° 18.4′ N · 86° 35.8′ W · approximate

The reef and wall along the eastern side of Half Moon Bay at the north-west tip of Roatán, reachable from shore or boat, with snorkellers on the shallows and divers on the wall below.

Practical

Coordinate from Wannadive (precision listed as 'approximate'), described as the eastern side of Half Moon Bay at the north-west end of the island; the beach itself is at 16.30537, -86.59340. Wannadive lists boat and shore access, an 18 m average and 25 m maximum depth, low current, wall and reef, snorkelling and freediving, with boat traffic as the main danger. Stay inside marked swim areas, because water taxis and dive boats run constantly. Roatán Marine Park rules apply: no touching or taking. From the West End moorings, land the dinghy at a dive-shop dock.

Best for

Reef snorkelling minutes from the West End moorings
