Miches Anchorage

18° 59.6′ N · 69° 3.9′ W

A typical Dominican seacoast town on the southeast side of Samaná Bay that sailboats almost never visit.

Practical

Waypoint from the Virgintino DR guide (~2015). Reefs lie to the east and west of the approach, and the anchorage is wide open to the N and E: untenable in any NE wind or sea. In SE weather adventurous crews can feel their way in. Miches is a Coast Guard interdiction port, so expect suspicion: have your despacho ready and some Spanish. Whale-watching trips to the Bancos de la Plata sanctuary also leave from Miches (GoDominicanRepublic).

Best for

An adventurous, rarely visited stop in SE weather
