Cayo Levantado Day Anchorage

19° 9.8′ N · 69° 16.8′ W · approximate

A lunch-and-swim anchorage in the lee of 'Bacardi Island' at the mouth of Samaná Bay, with white sand, palms and two public jetties for the dinghy.

Practical

Position approx: derived from the Virgintino guide's anchoring waypoint (19°09.92N 69°16.67W) and moved about 0.1 nm SW so the pin sits off the beach rather than on it; sound in. Anchor in the lee off the sandy beach. The Navy (Marina de Guerra) requires boats to leave by late afternoon, so overnight in Samaná, a few miles west. Of the three jetties the easternmost belongs to the hotel; use either of the other two, which tour boats use constantly. The island is busy when cruise ships call and visits may be restricted on big cruise-ship days (GoDominicanRepublic).

Best for

A day stop between Samaná and Los Haitises
