Cayo Levantado

19° 10.0′ N · 69° 16.5′ W

'Bacardi Island', the small palm-and-white-sand cay in the mouth of Samaná Bay, nicknamed for a 1970s rum commercial. The public half has beach bars and seafood shacks; the eastern half is a Grand Bahia Principe resort.

Practical

Coordinates from Wikipedia. Day anchorage only: the Virgintino guide (~2015) gives an anchoring waypoint of 19°09.92N 69°16.67W in the lee off the sandy beach, and says the Navy requires boats to leave by late afternoon, so return to Samaná (a few miles west) for the night. Three jetties: the easternmost is private to the hotel, but the other two (used by tour boats) take dinghies. The guide mentions a cafeteria-style lobster and fish restaurant and Ballena Blanca on the beach. Visits may be restricted when big cruise ships call. The island is 0.9 km E-W and 0.5 km N-S.
