Mamitupu Anchorage

9° 10.8′ N · 77° 58.8′ W · approximate

A traditional Guna island community in the far east of the comarca, beside Achutupu, used by boats arriving from Colombia as a quieter southern entry into Guna Yala.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: Spanish Wikipedia's coarse point for Mamitupu (9.18, -77.98); nearby Achutupu anchorage is verified at 09°11.547'N 077°59.299'W in 5.6 m thick mud with shallower mud before it (SY Balvenie 2012). Mamitupu charges an anchoring permit of $10 for 30 days (2018, verify locally). SY Two Fish entered Guna Yala here in 2016, found the south 'much nicer because there are fewer boats', and warned that C-Map charts were useless here; use the Bauhaus chartbook. Red snapper is sold by fishers (s/v Angel 2010). Clear into Panama first (Puerto Obaldía or Porvenir) to avoid illegal-entry fines.
