Isla Tigre (Digir) Anchorage

9° 25.8′ N · 78° 31.2′ W · approximate

A traditional Guna island east of Nargana, entered through a hard-to-see gap in its fringing reef, with little swinging room inside; one of the villages where visitors are guided through bamboo-and-thatch houses and the congreso hall.

Practical

Coordinate approximate: estimated from regional maps east of Nargana; no published waypoint was found, so use the Bauhaus chartlet. Caution: OpenStreetMap labels the village at almost exactly this point Mamartupu (9.4328, -78.5221), with Tikantiki (Niatupu) about 4.5 km east, so this coordinate may mark Mamartupu rather than Isla Tigre: confirm the island by name locally. SY Balvenie (2012) made it in through the reef entry but found it extremely hard to see under cloud in mid-afternoon, and not much room within the reef; they moved on to the fair-weather Farewell Islands anchorage. Enter only with high sun from behind and a bow lookout. Toucan Discovery lists Isla Tigre among villages offering guided visits (houses, school, congreso where the Sailas meet). Expect a local anchoring or visit fee and ask permission before landing.

Best for
