Carl's Hill (Klein Bonaire)

12° 9.9′ N · 68° 19.4′ W

A Klein Bonaire wall named after underwater photographer Carl Roessler: coral gardens at 3-9 m, a reef edge to 25 m, then a wall to 40 m - turtles, eagle rays and black seahorses for sharp-eyed divers.

Practical

Depth 3 m to 40 m+ (bonaire.com; PADI: reef drops from 9 m to 40 m onto a sloping sand floor). Current can run from mild to strong with tide, wind and season; above about 1 knot skip the wall and drift instead (bonaire.com). Experienced divers; SMB essential. Also known as Punt P'Abou / Yellow Man. Boat dive only. Yachts may not anchor anywhere around Klein Bonaire: go by dinghy from the Kralendijk moorings (about 1 km across the channel) and tie to the yellow STINAPA dive mooring (2-hour limit, max 13 m, by the bow; STINAPA), or join a dive-shop boat. Klein Bonaire has no facilities; boats landing people ashore must use the marked landing zone at No Name Beach (STINAPA, 2018-19). Nature fee and SCTLD rules apply (STINAPA). Trade-wind chop in the channel and north swells can make the dinghy ride wet; north-side sites are cancelled in strong NE wind (bonaire.com). Coordinate: PADI and bonaire.com both list 12.16521, -68.32320, which sits off Klein Bonaire's northwest corner (PADI's text calls it the northeastern tip); Divers Guide puts it about 1 km west of Ebo's Special, consistent with the northwest corner.
